When the weather turns

Canberra’s summer storms can bring large hail and strong gusts with little warning. Broken tiles, dented sheets, lifted ridge caps and branches through the roof are all common after a bad afternoon. The priority is to stop more water getting in. Our on-call crew carries tarps, battens and replacement materials so we can make the roof safe and weathertight on the first visit.

What to do while you wait

  • Stay off the roof and away from fallen power lines.
  • Move furniture and electronics away from leaks.
  • Place buckets and towels under drips.
  • Switch off power to light fittings that are wet.
  • Take photos of internal damage for your claim.

For widespread events, the ACT SES can also help with temporary repairs.

Reports for insurance

After a storm, insurers generally want evidence of the cause and extent of the damage. We provide a dated report with photos of each affected area, a description of the damage and a quote for permanent repairs. It gives your assessor what they need and avoids repeated site visits.

Permanent hail repairs

Once approved, we return to replace broken tiles with matching profiles, swap out damaged steel sheets, re-bed ridge capping and repair gutters. Where hail damage is extensive, a partial or full re-roof may be the better long-term fix, and we will explain why.

Preparing a roof for solar

Solar panels sit on your roof for decades, and removing them for later roof repairs adds real cost. Before installation, we inspect the area where panels will go, replace cracked tiles, re-point ridges, check fixings on metal roofs and confirm the structure is sound. We can liaise with your solar installer on timing so the roof is ready on the day they arrive.

Why It Matters

Limit further damage

A prompt make-safe keeps rain out of ceilings, insulation and electrical fittings while the permanent repair is organised.

Paperwork that helps your claim

Dated photos and a written damage report give your insurer clear evidence of what happened and what needs fixing.

Solar on a sound roof

Fixing tired tiles or sheets before panels go on avoids paying to remove and refit the system later.

How the Job Runs

  1. Step 1: Call and triage

Tell us what has happened and where water is coming in. We prioritise active leaks and unsafe roofs.

  2. Step 2: Make safe

Our on-call crew secures loose material, tarps damaged sections and clears blocked gutters, usually within four hours in metro Canberra.

  3. Step 3: Document the damage

We photograph and record every affected area and provide a report you can send to your insurer or assessor.

  4. Step 4: Permanent repair

Once the claim or quote is approved, we return to replace tiles, sheets, flashings or gutters and remove the temporary cover.

Materials We Use

  • Heavy-duty polyethylene tarps
  • Sandbags and tarp battens
  • Replacement concrete and terracotta tiles
  • Colorbond replacement sheets
  • Flashing and capping materials

Storm Damage & Solar Prep: Common Questions

No. Wet, damaged roofs are dangerous. Move valuables, put buckets under drips, turn off power to any wet light fittings and call us or the ACT SES.

We provide photo reports and quotes your insurer can assess. The claim itself is between you and your insurer, but we are happy to answer an assessor's questions.

Panels cover the roof for 20 years or more. Cracked tiles, worn bedding or rusted fixings are far cheaper to fix before installation than after.

Roof Repairs

Fast fixes that stop leaks before they damage ceilings and insulation.

Full Re-Roofing

Complete tear-off and replacement for roofs past the point of repair.

Roof Inspections

Detailed condition reports for buyers, owners and property managers.
