Steel roofing has become the default for many new homes and extensions across the ACT. It is light, quick to install and handles the region’s wide temperature range without cracking. For older homes, swapping heavy concrete tiles for steel can take load off a tired frame and remove the ongoing upkeep of ridge pointing.

Profiles and finishes

The profile you choose affects both the look and how the roof performs:

  • Corrugated – the traditional choice, cost-effective and at home on everything from cottages to new builds.
  • Trimdek and similar – bold, wide ribs that suit lower pitches and contemporary designs.
  • Standing seam – hidden fixings and crisp lines, often used on architectural homes and feature roofs.

Colours range from light greys that reflect summer heat to darker tones that suit modern facades. We bring sample swatches to site so you can see them against your brick or cladding.

Getting the details right

Metal roofs perform well when they are installed carefully. That means the right screws at the right spacing, sheets turned up at the high end and down into gutters, and flashings folded to fit rather than forced into place. We also clear every scrap of swarf, because steel filings left on a roof will rust and stain the finish.

Comfort and ventilation

An anti-condensation blanket under the sheets reduces rain noise, adds insulation and stops moisture forming on the underside of the steel on frosty mornings. We often pair metal roofs with whirlybirds or ridge vents to move trapped heat out of the roof space in summer.

Whether it is a new build, an extension tied into an existing roof or a full tile-to-metal conversion, we plan the job around your builder or your household.

What's Included

  • Corrugated, trimdek and standing seam profiles
  • Full tile-to-metal conversions with battens adjusted to suit
  • Insulation blankets to reduce rain noise and condensation
  • Custom-folded flashings, cappings and barge trims
  • Ember guard and BAL-compliant detailing
  • Whirlybirds and ridge ventilation

Why It Matters

Light on the frame

Steel weighs a fraction of concrete tiles, which reduces load on older frames and suits extensions and low-pitch designs.

Suited to bushfire zones

Steel roofing is non-combustible and can be detailed with ember guards to suit bushfire attack level requirements.

Low maintenance

There is no bedding or pointing to crack. An occasional rinse of sheltered areas and gutter clean is usually enough.

How the Job Runs

  1. Step 1: Design and colour selection

We review plans or the existing roof, recommend a profile and help you choose a colour that suits the house and the street.

  2. Step 2: Measure and fabricate

Sheets are ordered cut to length and flashings are folded to suit your roof, which keeps joins to a minimum.

  3. Step 3: Install and fix

We lay blankets, fix sheets with the correct screws and spacing, and fit ridges, flashings and trims.

  4. Step 4: Clean and inspect

Swarf and offcuts are removed the same day to prevent rust spotting, then we inspect every fixing line before handover.

Materials We Use

  • Colorbond steel
  • Zincalume steel
  • Standing seam panels
  • Anti-condensation insulation blankets
  • Class 4 roofing screws
  • Wind-driven roof ventilators

Metal Roofing: Common Questions

With an insulation blanket and a ceiling below, rain noise is usually similar to a tiled roof. Open or raked ceilings benefit from thicker blankets.

Yes. We remove the tiles, adjust or replace battens to suit steel, add sarking or blankets and install the new sheets. Most homes take two to five days.

Corrugated is the classic Australian wave profile and is economical. Standing seam has concealed fixings and clean flat pans, suited to modern designs and low pitches.
