What to Pack for a Lakeside Retreat, Season by Season

Guest Experiences Team2 min read

A simple, season-by-season packing list for a lakeside retreat, covering pool days, spa time, forest trails, kayaking and cosy evenings by the water.

Packing for the lake is easier than you might think. Most of what you need is already waiting in your room, and the dress code is relaxed from breakfast to dinner. The trick is packing for the outdoors, because the best moments here usually happen outside.

What we provide

Before you start folding, it helps to know what you can leave at home. Every room includes:

  • Robes and slippers for the Forest Spa and lazy mornings
  • Pool and spa towels
  • Natural bath and body products
  • Bicycles to borrow during your stay
  • Umbrellas for showery days

Your personal host can also arrange anything you have forgotten, so there is no need to pack for every possibility.

The essentials, all year

For the water

Bring at least one swimsuit, ideally two. The heated 30-metre infinity pool opens from sunrise year-round, and you will need one for the thermal circuit at the Forest Spa too.

For the outdoors

Comfortable walking shoes are a must for our guided forest trails and the sunset ridge hike. A light waterproof jacket earns its place in every season.

For the evenings

Dinner at The Lake Terrace is smart but relaxed. Think linen, knitwear and comfortable shoes rather than anything formal.

Spring

Spring days can be bright and fresh, with cool mornings by the water.

  • Layers you can add and remove easily
  • A warm jumper for early sunrise kayak tours
  • Waterproof walking shoes for damp woodland paths
  • A light scarf for evenings on the terrace

Summer

Summer is the season for long days at the pool and dinners outdoors.

  • Light, breathable clothing and a sun hat
  • Sunglasses and reef-friendly sun cream
  • Sandals for the pool deck, plus trainers for trails and bikes
  • A cardigan or light layer for evenings by the lake

Autumn

Autumn brings golden woodland and crisp, clear mornings.

  • A cosy knit and a warm jacket
  • Sturdy, waterproof boots for leaf-covered trails
  • A hat and gloves for sunrise on the jetty
  • Comfortable loungewear for long spa afternoons

Winter

Winter is our quietest, cosiest season, perfect for the Forest Spa and slow mornings.

  • A proper winter coat, hat and gloves
  • Thermal layers for walks along the shore
  • Warm socks and comfortable indoor shoes
  • A swimsuit, because the heated pool and thermal pools are glorious on a cold day

Pack light, pack layers, and leave space for the jar of kitchen-garden preserves you will want to take home.

Packing for children

If you are travelling with little ones joining the Kids’ Nature Club, pack clothes that can get muddy, wellies or sturdy shoes, a sun hat and a spare change of clothes. Let your host know in advance if you need a cot or extra bedding.

Before you set off
