Plan a relaxed family stay by the lake, from choosing the right room to the Kids' Nature Club, pool days, mealtimes and simple tips that keep everyone happy.
A family holiday should feel like a holiday for everyone, including the grown-ups. Over the years we have learned that the secret is not packing every hour with activities. It is getting a few practical things right, then leaving room for the lake, the woods and the pool to do the rest.
Choosing the right room
Space makes all the difference when you are travelling with children. Two of our room types are designed with families in mind.
Garden Family Room
The Garden Family Room opens onto the gardens, giving little ones somewhere to wander while you finish your coffee. It is a comfortable choice for parents with younger children.
Two-Bedroom Garden Villa
For larger families, or for anyone who values a separate room for the children, the Two-Bedroom Garden Villa offers a door to close at bedtime and a shared living space for the evenings. It also works well for grandparents travelling along.
You can compare every option on our rooms page, and your personal host is always happy to advise.
The Kids’ Nature Club
Our Kids’ Nature Club welcomes children aged 4 to 11, and it is built around the same landscape the adults enjoy. Rather than staying indoors, the club spends its time exploring.
Typical activities include:
- Bug hunts and den building in the woodland
- Planting, picking and tasting in the kitchen garden
- Pond dipping and stone skimming along the shoreline
- Nature crafts made from leaves, pine cones and found treasures
- Gentle games and quiet storytelling when energy dips
Children come back muddy, happy and full of stories. Parents get a few hours for the Forest Spa, a long lunch or simply an uninterrupted swim.
Pool days
The heated 30-metre infinity pool is a favourite with families, and opening from sunrise means early risers have somewhere to go. Our guide to infinity pool days shares the quieter spots and the best times for shade. As always, children should be supervised by an adult around the water.
Mealtimes made easy
Relaxed dining
The Pool House Kitchen is ideal for lunches with children, with fresh, simple dishes and no pressure to sit still for long. The Lake Terrace welcomes families too, and the kitchen is happy to adapt seasonal dishes for smaller appetites. See our dining page for more.
Allergies and preferences
Tell us about allergies or dietary needs before you arrive. The kitchen will plan ahead, so you will not need to explain at every meal.
Our tips for a smooth stay
Plan one thing a day and let the rest unfold.
- Book transfers. Private airport transfers mean no wrestling car seats into a hire car after a long journey.
- Share the details early. Let your host know your children’s ages, cots or extra beds needed, and any favourite snacks.
- Use the arrival window. Check-in is from 3pm, so plan a lunch stop on the way rather than arriving hungry.
- Try one family adventure. A guided forest trail or a bike ride together often becomes the highlight.
- Keep the last morning gentle. Check-out is by 11am, but luggage can be held while you enjoy a final swim.
