Choosing Ink and Paper for Your Wedding Invitations

Your invitation is the first thing guests hold from your wedding, and the paper and ink you choose say as much as the words themselves.

Cotton papers have a soft, luxurious feel and take ink beautifully, but they can be absorbent, so a slightly thicker ink keeps hairlines crisp. Smooth bristol board suits metallic inks and very fine scripts.

For colour, think about where the ink will sit. White gouache glows on dark envelopes, gold and copper inks catch the light on cream stock, and walnut ink gives a warm, vintage feel.

Whatever you choose, ask for a sample sheet. We always letter two or three test pieces so you can see the combination in your own hands before a single invitation is written.

Browse our wedding portfolio for inspiration, or send us your date and we will suggest a pairing.
