Your first fertility appointment can feel like a lot of information in a short time. Writing a few questions down beforehand helps you leave with a plan you understand, rather than a list of terms to look up later.
1. What tests do we both need?
Fertility is a shared journey. Ask which tests are recommended for each partner, how long results take and whether any can be done on the same day.
2. What are our realistic chances?
A good specialist will talk honestly about your chances with each option, based on your age, history and test results, rather than headline success rates.
3. Which treatment would you start with, and why?
Some patients begin with ovulation support or IUI, others go straight to IVF. Understanding the reasoning helps you feel part of the decision.
4. What will it cost?
Ask for a written, itemised estimate that includes medication, monitoring and laboratory fees, and what rebates may apply.
5. Who do we contact between appointments?
Knowing who answers your messages, and how quickly, makes the whole process calmer. At our clinic every patient has a dedicated nurse coordinator.
