Foam wears out long before fabric does. Replacing it is one of the cheapest ways to make an old sofa feel new.
Watch for cushions that stay dented after you stand up, seats that slope towards the front edge, and a lumpy feel when you run your hand across them.
If you sink until you feel the frame, or the cushions no longer fill their covers, the foam has lost its structure.
New interiors can be cut to fit your existing covers, so the look stays the same while the comfort comes back.
