The right fabric depends less on colour than on how the piece is used. A sofa in a family room needs a very different cloth from an occasional chair in a bedroom.

Start with the rub count. Anything above 30,000 double rubs suits everyday seating; occasional pieces can go lower. Performance velvets and tightly woven linens wear well and clean easily.

Next, think about light. Natural fibres fade in a sunny window, while solution-dyed synthetics hold their colour for years.

Finally, bring the swatch home. Fabric looks different under your own lights and beside your own floors, which is why we always bring samples to you.
